Pumpkin Pie Goat's Milk Soap

The time for gifting is upon us, at least perhaps for those of us that make handmade gifts for the ones we love! For the past several years, I have come to love giving handmade gifts more and more than ones from the store. While it is nice to receive something new that we are really wanting, and these things tend to be for family members who specifically ask for them, for those that we gift to who are more difficult to figure out or a neighbor or even a close friend, I think homemade presents are the most special and often so much more treasured.

what you will need:

directions:

  • In a microwave safe dish or a pot for soap making, either melt the soap base in the microwave until fully melted or heat over the stove.

  • Add the shea butter and mix into the soap base until fully melted and combined.

  • Once melted, allow the soap to cool to around 110° F. This is the best point to add any fragrance oils or colorants to remain fragrant and vibrant. To achieve a nice orangey-red color, use yellow and red colorant until satisfied.

  • Slowly pour the soap into the soap mold. Mix or lightly tap the mold on the counter a few times to remove air bubbles.

  • As the soap cools, you can use the back of a spoon to swirl the top layer and create some fun shapes, or add little pieces of cinnamon sticks for decoration.

  • Allow the soap to harden and cure for about 8-12 hours. Remove the soap from the mold and slice into bars.

As you can see, this is an incredibly simple soap recipe, which makes it perfect for a quick gift or a beginner soap maker. I am still not skilled in the art of cold process soap making, something my husband and I are looking forward to trying this winter. He’s a chemistry professor, so I trust his judgement on working with lye better than if I just winged it myself!

Happy crafting!
