UATR Embroidery Club: "Apis Mellifera" Hoop Introduction
Can you believe that it is March? Somehow it was both quick and slow to arrive. Last night I went to a fruit tree pruning and training class, and as the instructor was making the statement, "Now is the time to prune your fruiting trees and bushes..." my mind immediately clicked and said, "Oh my... I think it's SPRING!" I've been spending so many days and weeks wishing for it to get here. This month we decided to take an older hoop that I made almost two years ago - wow! - to turn into a kit. It is one that has traveled the country, showcasing itself at our various art and maker fairs. We have had so many admirers of it, asking how they can purchase the kit to make this gorgeous honeybee. I was always sad when I had to say that it was never a kit to begin with! Now it is, and you can get your hands on this kit and digital pattern TODAY. Excitement!
This kit is my representation of the Western Honeybee, or Apis mellifera, scientifically. This is the most common honeybee kept by beekeepers worldwide. They are docile and were one of the world's first domesticated insects. We decided to create this design into a kit to share, as we anticipate the start of our first hive of bees. I cannot believe that we will be keeping them ourselves! It is definitely one of the most nerve-wracking things I have done... how is it that bees can create such awe, fear, and wonder all in one tiny package?
This kit is titled 'Apis Mellifera' and comes with a full color printed piece of linen fabric to stitch one, a 6 inch wooden hoop, 4 embroidery threads in recommended colors, and herbal tea (this month is chamomile!), one of our 100% pure beeswax honeycombs, and a printed travel sack for easy carrying and storage. We hope that you love this kit as much as we do!
For those of you who are stumbling upon our embroidery club for the first time, we started this project in June of 2017 as a way to make our embroidery designs more accessible to our customers. I am a little in awe of how much this club has grown and evolved! Each month, I drop a new exclusive design, which you can purchase as either a kit with full supplies, or a digital pattern and purchase the supplies yourself. You'll receive a full PDF that includes instructions, step-by-step photos for how to make the stitches, and information to contact me if you need help! If you'd like exclusive deals and reminders for kit drops, I always suggest joining our Embroidery Club Newsletter. Click below to purchase this month's kit! There are only 25 this time.
