Come Visit Our Country Store!
On this past Saturday morning we opened the doors of our Country Store to the public for the first time. Wow! It’s really all I can say. Jill, myself, and the entire family were absolutely blown away by the amount of people that walked through the doors and into our little store this weekend. We were not expecting so many of you, and our hearts are absolutely bursting with excitement and love for what the future holds. Thank you for being a part of our special day, whether you were here in person or supporting us online. We appreciate your business more than words can say. It means the world to us.
We ended up turning the garage that was already on the property into our country store. If you have been following along since we moved onto the property last December then you might remember us sharing little tidbits here and there about how we had the dream of remodeling the inside of this tin shell into a shop! Before it was literally just tin walls, a cement floor, and an open ceiling. A decent garage for a farm. My dad spent the past year turning it into the most gorgeous shop. He’s done this for us so many times, and we know that this will officially be the last one! Though there is already talk of expansion. I am just happy for what we have - you know us, always dreaming over here!
The Grand Opening event was unbelievable. We did not sit or eat for the entire day on Friday and Saturday was just as busy (though I remembered to eat!). I made 50 mini pumpkin and pecan pies, 20 mini spiced apple cakes, 4 sets of giant brownies, 20 mini cinnamon rolls, and 8 loaves of Italian bread. They all sold out on Friday! I made a few more sets of brownies and loaves of breads (I had run out of mini pie tins) and they sold the minute I brought them into the shop on Saturday. I am now wondering how on earth I will keep up with that, but I am so thankful that our baked goods went over so well! We have a little counter in the shop where you can sit and eat if you wish. We also decided that we will always offer complimentary coffee and tea to our customers. Because coffee is not an option - it is a necessity!
Our shop is something born of both dreams and necessity. While we were the host farm of our CSA program for the entirety of the year, we quickly realized that we needed a temperature controlled building to make pick-up days successful. We didn’t even have a fridge for our veggies the first couple of weeks! That was something we also came to realize we needed desperately. We have already outgrown that commercial fridge and are going to turn the area where our chickens’ coop is into a walk-in cooler. That will be a fun how-to tutorial to share here because we will be using one of those CoolBots! We probably will be adding that in the spring - the perfect place to store all of our produce and meats for CSA, farmer’s markets, harvest dinners, and extra inventory for the store. (Yep, you read that right. We want to have farm-to-table dinners here all year round!). There are a lot of fun plans upcoming for 2019, let me tell ya. For now, the first things you can sign up for before they sell out are our workshops hosted here in the country store and you can also pre-order pies (and other baked goods like cookies and cinnamon rolls coming soon for December) to pick-up in our store for Thanksgiving! Make sure you order by Sunday, November 18th.
You will find some new options in our store like new tee designs, our beautifully designed 2019 calendar towel, curated finds, gorgeous waxed canvas bags, and even some new soap scents from Wild Farm Soap who also raises the meats for our CSA! Cara created a new soap called Moss for us that smells so delicious and earthy. There’s another new scent called Chick Grit as well that is made with Rosemary essential oil and pumice stone! Perfect for the hard-working woman to get those dirty hands cleaned up. All of these products will be available in our online store for our first “seasonal drop” on November 16th at 9AM CST. We will be offering drop dates of products in our online shop throughout the year, at least for now. We figure this will keep us sane running brick and mortar and online shop with just two people!! Be sure to mark your calendar if you want to purchase Christmas gifts online or subscribe to our newsletter.
We will be open during the winter months Tuesday through Saturday from 10AM - 5PM. We’d love if you took the time to stop by the shop! We will have seasonal produce throughout the year. The next week or two will be our last weeks to offer any veggies, so grab them now before they are gone until mid-spring! Eggs will be here all year long and meats from Wild Farm. Yay! Be sure to check out Instagram and Facebook pages to see any specials happening. We have some special seasonal items that will be coming after Thanksgiving for the holidays that you won’t want to miss out on. I will also post there when we have fresh baked goods in and other fresh items. It’s an exciting time. I am ready to see what will change in our lives as we take on the roles of shopkeepers. It already feels right in my mind, where we are at and how far we have come. So thankful for this beautiful life.
