UATR Embroidery Club | Happy Sunflowers + Daisies Intro
Hello, my crafting lovelies!
This is honestly a little bit of scary day for me, but scary in an exciting way! I am so excited to start the Under A Tin Roof Monthly Embroidery Club with you. It's been something that I have been thinking about for some time, and when it came into my head that it might actually work, I decided to just go for it. So while I have been building it up for the past month, I still felt really behind about it. The process was new, I've never really seen anyone do something like this where we have discussions on the blog and on Instagram live (YES!). While there was evident planning that I could do, I also had to just tell myself, "It's now or never." Just hold me tight. You know the rest.
If you are reading this and feel like you have no idea what I am talking about, let me back it up.
Today is the first day that you can order a digital download of our Embroidery Club Pattern for the month of June. Every month, I will release a new, original pattern that is available for purchase as either a kit (though these come in a limited supply) and as a PDF file where you can buy the supplies yourself. For this month, we sold out of kits in less than a week! Eek! If you missed out on a kit this month, don't worry, I'll be sure to let you know ahead of time when preorder for July will happen. As of right now, click here to order your digital download of June's pattern. It will disappear into the archives on June 30th, so don't miss out!
For the rest of the month while we stitch and make pretty things, you can meet me here on the blog to discuss the pattern, learn some new tricks, grab access to my stitching playlist, talk about movies and books and life, and just get to know your fellow lovers of embroidery. I also decided to add in Live Video to the mix! It's something that I've always wanted to do, but wasn't sure where it fit with our business. Today at 10 AM CST, you can join me on Instagram Live to listen to my ramblings, ask any questions you might have, and see me stitch this month's pattern.
With the newness of this embroidery club, also comes the newness of teaching my beloved craft and sending it out to the masses. I want to step up my email list game and send you some awesome content there. I also don't want to leave anyone out who might not know a thing about embroidery! While I am working on a Beginner's Embroidery Course, for now I thought it might be nice to share a free video tutorial with you on the 5 Basic Stitches You Need To Know. These stitches are crucial if you are brand new and will help you get through this month's pattern. To access this video, click here, and subscribe the the Embroidery Club Newsletter!
Also, a reminder that I will be giving out often, feel free to share your work on Instagram with the hashtag #UATRembroider. This is where I will find your work to feature on the club's last blog post of the month! I can't wait to see what y'all create.
Lately, I've been really inspired by sunflowers. The image has been settled in my brain for quite sometime, whether it was inspiration from the incredibly rustic mustard hues or even the sunflower emoji, I knew I needed this flower in my artwork. After sketching up this design, it just felt like the perfect welcome to summer! Can you believe that it's June already?! Ah! 6 months into 2017, and I am feeling more inspired than ever. It's as if I am on the cusp of greatness lately. Like one more step, and I will know the direction I am headed is a good one. For now, I think I'll keep stitching for myself.
That's kind of where the idea for this club started. I was starting to feel this disconnect from our readers. Honestly, I had been building and building and building our readership without ever really hearing from you, at least, not as often as I liked. There were questions that I answered, but I still felt like I could have been doing more to serve you. While my embroidery was always loved by our followers, it didn't sell, at least not any of the original pieces I made. There were several months within the past two years where I was buried under custom orders. Those were so fun, but it was starting to weigh down on me! I wanted to serve everyone, and while I could have been happy only taking a small amount of orders, I felt like there was this cry of, "Teach me how to make this!" It was the one question that I was asked the most: "How did you learn to embroider, and can you teach me?"
I really feel like this dying art is starting to have a revival. More and more people are becoming inspired and interested in this work of art, and why not find a place to congregate and create together? At first, I thought maybe a book club would be fun, but that's just not our style. That's not what our readers are into necessarily! While I am sure most of you love reading, I know you're here to see what we're making, and if we can inspire you in some way to slow down, build relationships, and make something that's worthwhile and beautiful then we're succeeding.
This month, June, let's be happy and full of sunshine. The sunflowers in my garden are growing like crazy. The daisies on the corner near the gas station have popped up and are in bloom. It's such a great time to be alive, to enjoy the flowers and the fresh summer air! I think that this is the perfect piece to stitch outside while you wait for your clothes to dry on the line, or maybe take it along to the park or while you are on a family road trip.
I've put together a little playlist for you to stitch to! I am not sure what kind of music you listen to, but this is how I've been feeling about June. Click here to listen!
So who all is here?! I want to get to know you. Leave a comment below and introduce yourself! Maybe I can make a pin board map of where everyone is from (:
Next time we meet, I'll be answering any of your questions. Feel free to leave a comment below so that I can answer them next time. To find out when we're meeting next, click here to purchase a digital download and access the class schedule. Have a suggestion for a television show to binge watch while we stitch? Or maybe an awesome podcast to listen to? I'd love to talk more about it!
Let me know in the comments below! (: Until next time.
