Our Favorite Handmade Herbal Gifts
There is nothing better than receiving a handmade gift for the holidays! Recently I was prompted by the Beekman 1802 Almanac to share my thoughts on the importance of making gifts by hand, and I found that I had a lot to say! As someone who practices minimizing the numbers of things we own, creating less waste in the home, and creating a majority of the things we use, eat, and care for ourselves with by hand I am starting to see just how crazed and overwhelming the holidays have become. Growing up, I wanted for nothing and was often extremely spoiled on Christmas morning. I am an only child, and it was easy to be gifted many things from all family members and friends. Now, over the past six years, we have begun dreading the holidays. I remember a close friend in high school prompting the question, "Why don't you just take the money you were going to spend on me and spend it on yourself? And I'll do the same!" That was her solution to getting exactly what you wanted for Christmas. While I agree, there's also something missing. We all have a desire to please our friends, family, and loved ones on the holidays, right? You want to gift them something meaningful, to thank them, to let them know that you care.
I love that sentiment, yet we've somehow figured out how to mangle it and overdo it, like many other aspects of our lives. What happened to simple gifting? The kind where it was not about how much you spent, but about how much time you took to make it? I didn't experience much of that growing up, and I wish that I had. Now I make everyone homemade gifts. I refuse to spend my money on something that will not be appreciated and get thrown away, like a candle or hand soap. If you want a gift like that to mean something, then make it yourself! It's not difficult, and I bet the person who opens your package will be delighted to know that you created it with your own two hands. Today, we are sharing our favorite herbal recipes from our blog that we think make great gifts for every person in your life! Throughout the month of December, we will also be sharing our favorite useful, quality, and waste free gift guides as well.
