Want to house hunt with me? House walking tour in downtown Kalona, Iowa

I ADORE old houses!  Kurt & I have purchased our fair share of them over the years, painstakingly fixed them up and lovingly passed them onto their new owners in hopes that they have the same admiration that we do. We are having fun exploring our new neighborhood here in Kalona, Iowa.  This pink victorian reminds me a little of our house in Morris, IL. I had thought many times about painting the Morris house a light pink, and now that I see how cute it is I kinda wish that I had!

Below is a photo of our old house in Morris, IL.

How fun are the colors on this one! It looks like a dollhouse to me. Oh, and that blooming yellow tree is fantastic!

A sweet little, yellow bungalow. This one convinced me that I want lots of hydrangeas in my yard.

With all the hoopla of the tiny house movement, I thought this was a perfect example of how sweet a little house can be. Loving the details of the scallops above the porch and the grey and white striped awning.

One of the houses in the Historical Village in town. If you ever get a chance to visit Kalona, you have to check out this fantastic historical tour. I will definitely be posting about this place in the future!

Last, but not least, a glimpse of our new/old house. It's situated approximately a block and a half away from downtown Kalona on a generous 1/2 acre lot.  We can't wait to start renovating and giving it a fresh life! It's going to take a lot of elbow grease, but it's nothing that we haven't tackled before. First on the list of things to do, get rid of all the shrubs that were half dead (good job Kurty!!) Then it's in desperate need of some new paint, shutters and window boxes, don't you think?!! Eventually we want to put a porch along the front so we can enjoy watching the horse and buggies that go by (I don't think I'm ever going to get tired of having horses clip clop down the street everyday!!).

Anyone have suggestions on color schemes for the house? I'd love to hear them.
